Multiple spindles for high speed 3-D image scanning

ABTech's multi-spindle design uses three spindles synchronized with multi-axis motion controller, capacitance probe monitoring system and a vibration isolation platform for high speed image scanning. 

This application specific design incorporated a 50 mm clear aperture with low inertia aluminum construction and rotational speed of 18,000 rpms. The spindles were mounted on a railroad car traveling 75 mph creating a 3-D image of the rail every 10 cm for track, switch, tunnel and bridge inspection.
